What do Hassan Saeed and Mohamed Nasheed have in common?

They both show contempt and disregard for the rights of Maldivians working at tourist resort, Anni through his government's systematic crackdown on peaceful protests by staff in their hotels and Hassan Saeed through his Gaumee Party's proposed amendment to the right to protest laws.

Universal Resorts, widely accused of being the worst offender in terms of exploitation and mistreatment its staff, is said to be pouring money into the coffers of both the MDP and the Gaumee Party in its attempt to jeopardise the heard-earned rights of resort workers.

But more on this story and other news in the days to come.

This is just a welcome note to the Maldives Report blog, where we tell it like it is.
